What are Unisa’s Short Learning Programmes (SLPs)?
Unisa’s SLPs are strategically designed to enhance your skills and knowledge in a chosen subject. They are tailored for individuals seeking to:
- Update their current skill set.
- Broaden their knowledge base in a particular area.
- Meet unique employment requirements.
SLPs are housed within different academic departments across Unisa’s colleges and are offered and administered by the Centre for Lifelong Learning.

Who Must Apply?
If you wish to start a new Short Learning Programme, you must apply for admission. This includes:
- First-time Unisa applicants.
- Current Unisa students changing to a new Short Learning Programme.
- Applicants who previously applied for admission but were not offered a space.
When Must I Apply?
Registration for Unisa’s Short Learning Programmes is now open. To begin the application process, visit Unisa Application Tool.
What Documents Are Required?
All applicants must upload the necessary supporting documents, which typically include:
- A copy of your school qualifications (e.g., National Senior Certificate).
- A copy of your official tertiary academic records (if applicable). Internet copies are not accepted.
- A copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students).
- A copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable).
- Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans.
- Any additional documents required for a specific Short Learning Programme.
What Do I Need to Know Before I Apply?
- All Short Learning Programme applications must be submitted online.
- You may apply for a maximum of two Short Learning Programmes, ranked in order of preference. However, you can only register for one programme should both applications be successful.
- You must accept or decline the offer within the prescribed period indicated in your offer letter. Failure to accept the offer within this period will result in Unisa withdrawing the offer and giving your place to another applicant.
